grand unveiling

The new site is now officially open to the public. I guess I could call this the Grand Opening but people would either expect refreshments or make dirty jokes. I’m not finished tweaking all the design elements, but the content is readable and that’s the important thing, right?
A few minor notes on the new design:

  • I don’t want to hear any of that “she’s gone to the dark side and become a blogger” crap. Or even the blog vs. journal discussion. It’s a personal Web site. Thank you.
  • Yes, I know the popcorn graphics that divide the columns don’t evenly stretch to the bottom of the page. I’m tired of fooling with that particular design issue and will consult some people next week who actually know what they’re doing.
  • The archives links aren’t correct yet either, so just ignore them. I still have work to do on the stuff that will appear in the side columns.
  • If you don’t like sidebars … then Web surfing must be very painful for you these days. Maybe I spent too much time putting together newsletters in my youth but I’ve always had a fondness for a three-column layout.
  • At least the gray background is gone. Doesn’t that make you happy?
  • I am enabling comments for most entries. This is a trial period to see how well that works.
  • I’m also posting my email address in more places. That address gets an amazing amount of spam so if you want me to actually read your message, you might put “eyes” or “celluloid eyes” in the subject line. If your subject line is simply “hi” then you might as well title it “Refinance your mortgage today by selling penis enlargment pills!”
  • I am open to feedback on the design and if I find out you know Movable Type really well I may even pester you a bit. Don’t feel hurt if I disagree with your design advice, though.
  • I can’t see the Add Comments fields in my version of IE. Anyone else have this problem? (Obviously, you may have to email me about it rather than post a comment, heh.)

The nice thing about Movable Type is that I can keep tweaking the design without taking down the site or having to re-upload stuff. So in the next month you’ll probably see a fair number of changes, mostly in the side columns.
Enjoy.
