movies this week: abbreviated in Austin

I realized this morning that some cool movies are playing in Austin this week, and I missed telling everyone about them because I was too busy playing Ask Jette. (You can still email me questions, you know. I am seriously considering doing it again if I get enough good questions.)
I am not going to list the movies that opened over the weekend because you probably already know about Sin City and Beauty Shop, and if you’re enough of a Woody Allen fan to care, you also know that Melinda and Melinda opened in Austin.
But here are a few gems you might have overlooked:

Academy Award-Nominated Short Films—Playing at Alamo South. It’s so difficult to get to see these that I hate to miss the opportunity.
Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason—Playing at the Texas Union Theatre on Wed.-Thurs. 4/6-7. They’re showing the first movie on Wed. and the second movie on Thurs. Free admission … I think it’s open to anyone who shows up, but someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
Hotel Rwanda—Playing at Alamo Downtown on Wed-Thurs. 4/6-7. I haven’t seen this yet. I really should.
Ichi the Killer—Playing at Alamo Downtown on Tues. 4/5. Part of the Austin Film Society series on Takashi Miike. I tried to talk myself into seeing a Miike film, but I’ve had my fill of intensely violent movies lately, what with seeing A Hole in My Heart and now Sin City.
The Last Days of the San Jose—Playing at Alamo Downtown on Wed. 4/6. I don’t know when this charming documentary about the late S. Congress motel will play in an Austin theater again, so don’t miss the chance to see it. My review is here. (My review is also on the Alamo Downtown listing for this movie, which was a pleasant surprise to discover today. Cool!)
I’ll go back to doing Movies This Week regularly on Friday or Saturday. I missed not knowing all the movies that were playing around town. It’s like an addiction. Sad but true.
